Should I Buy a Waterfront Property?

April 10, 2018

Many of us dream to live near a body of water: whether it’d be the ocean, the lake, a river, or maybe even close to a waterfall, or an island, who knows? And it’s beautiful! We see pictures all the time, we visit places, and we dream that one day we can live near or on a waterfront property. Although I include myself in having this lovely dream, I would like to share with you the pros and cons of living in a waterfront property.

Let’s start with the good things.. 🙂

Some advantages of living in front of the water is that: your surroundings are quiet and peaceful due to the privacy that the water gives you. Another wonderful thing about living by the water is that you have a lot of variety of water sports to choose from.

If you love to canoe, kayak, fishing, jet ski, or have a boat, living on a waterfront property, depending on what kind of body of water it is, gives you the flexibility to do these fun things! If you are one who would like to love by the beach, you can save a lot of money on marina fees, parking meters, and more.

Now to the not so good things.. 🙁

Some disadvantages of living in a waterfront property is that the maintenance of the home can be more expensive due to the damp air, mist, humidity, and salt that can cause a negative effect on the exterior of the home and the property grounds, as well as the interior of the home, causing a lot of wear and tear on furniture and appliances.

Along with that, the water also brings lots of insects, snakes, and alligators(if you live on a lake), which can also be a concern, if they are too close for comfort. Living by the water can also make the home more prone to burglaries, and a lot of noise of motorboats passing by, and depending on what place you live in, the public may or may not have access to your property.

But, there is always light at the end of the tunnel..right? 🙂

As they say, “The rose always comes with its thorns, but it never stops being beautiful.” and that’s how waterfront living is like. It comes with its pros and cons, but it still keeps being a dream spot for many of us!

Yep, so there you have it! What do you think? Would you like to live on a waterfront property? Do you live on one already?

Share your experience with us, we’d love to hear from you!
